Project: MUDGEE TAFE STAGE 3-HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM BLOCK

CLIENT: The Department of Education

BUDGET: $5 million

COMPLETION: Febryary 2010

This is a new state of the art facility for Tourism & Hospitality training in NSW, incorporating fine dining, a commercial kitchen, motel management and wine industry teaching cellars.

Its innovative approach to design and technology provides the Western Region with much needed skills and a contemporary venue.

It offers transparency through the hospitality and hotel spaces, together with flexibility in combining dining and teaching areas for common use, showcase two fast growing industries in this area of the Western Region: Winery and Tourism.

With its linear plan, a clerestory along the central circulation spine catches the even southern light which flows throughout all main spaces with shades of red. The same shades are also reflected in the main entry blades. The remainder of the colour scheme is in silvers and grey.

The use of corrugated metal externally reinforces the rural character of the site.

Other features include cross flow ventilation, north/south facing aspects, rainwater re-use, wireless technology and computerized ordering systems.
