Project: YASS PUBLIC SCHOOL - EARTHQUAKE STRENGTHENING
CLIENT: The Department of Education
BUDGET: $0.5 million
COMPLETION: 2017
The objectives of this investigation and scoping study report, by NSW Department of Education, are to identify buildings with the most vulnerable and hazardous parts under seismic loads in Goulburn area and determine the scope and budget of required structural stabilization works.
The investigation comprises of a visual inspection of buildings with architectural elements such as chimneys, parapets, gablets and gable walls that can collapse under earthquake load and present hazard to people below inside and outside the buildings.
The above mentioned elements were assessed to comply with requirement of AS 3826-1998 “Strengthening existing buildings for earthquake”.
This building, built circa 1877 is a single story building with external and internal masonry load bearing walls. The timber roof structure consists of rafters supported by underpurlins and timber trusses.
The building has seven chimneys, nine gable walls, eleven gablets and one parapet subject to the scope of work.
The scope does not include earthquake assessment of the main building structure as a whole for resistance against earthquake loads and their compliance with earthquake standards AS1170.4 and AS 3826-1998.
