Project: MACQUARIE FIELDS TAFE - SPORT AND RECREATION CENTRE-BLOCK "K"

CLIENT: Department of Education

BUDGET: $4.6 million

COMPLETION: October 2009

Located on the site of the Macquarie Fields TAFE site, “Macquarie Fields Sport and Recreation Centre – Block K” comprises a new gymnasium, aerobic training rooms along with teaching, staff and support amenities.

It is also be open for public use after hours.

The design makes reference to the solidly built existing red brick buildings by using a similar red coloured corrugated wall and roof sheeting. The green wall coloring reflects the large open lawn space to the north of the building used for outdoor exercise. The remaining colour scheme is in shades of grey.

Dynamic ceiling forms and red polycarbonate skylighting create drama at the building entrance and draw from the human bodies’ circulatory system – the building metaphorically has a life of its own.
